It is another weekend to watch our favourite teams, but there is no bigger event this week than Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Manchester City.

Although there are also matches in the rest of Europe’s top leagues after the Champions League took centre stage midweek, there is no bigger match this weekend than the clash at Anfield.

The eyes of the world will be fixated on the clash as we go into one of the busiest periods of the season in England.

This weekend’s round of matches is the beginning of a busy period, which will see matches take place almost every day.

But before we get into next week, let’s delve into what to expect in the match between Liverpool and Manchester City.

Liverpool vs Manchester City

Liverpool can cap off a perfect week when they host Manchester City in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday.

But more importantly, the Reds can put one hand on the trophy if they manage to beat Pep Guardiola’s men, even though it is just December.

When Arne Slot was announced as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement in the summer, not many thought Liverpool would be in this current position.

However, Slot has slotted in seamlessly, with Liverpool firing on all cylinders.

The Reds are currently the leaders in both the Premier League and Champions League this season and could go 11 points clear of City if they win on Sunday.

This shows the magnitude of what Slot is doing as a win could effectively wrap up the league title with six months to go.

Liverpool have been in impressive form since Slot took over, losing just one game.

The Reds come into this match on the back of a 2-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League, which maintained their 100% record in the competition this season.

They had also beaten Southampton in their last Premier League and could cap off a perfect week with a win over Manchester City.

If Liverpool win on Sunday, they will go into the busiest period of the season with an 11-point gap over City and at least 9 over Arsenal if the Gunners beat West Ham on Saturday.

Even though it is only December, this will be a monumental lead at this stage of the season. The omens look good for Liverpool as they have lost just one of their last 21 Premier League games at home against City (W13, D7).

Also, they have a good record against City’s manager. Only Tottenham Hotspur (9) have beaten Guardiola more times than Liverpool (8).

Meanwhile, if Liverpool are having an unprecedented season, it’s the opposite for City. This season has been a nightmare for City and Guardiola.

The four-time defending champions are on a six-match winless streak in all competitions, including three defeats in their last three league games.

It is crisis time for Guardiola’s men, who gave up a three-goal lead in their Champions League clash against Feyenoord on Tuesday.

The Cityzens were leading 3-0 with 15 minutes left in the game, but they blew the lead as Feyenoord came back to earn a point.

It’s not the perfect result for them ahead of a daunting trip to Anfield. Even though it is just December, City cannot afford to lose this game as a loss could be the end of their title defence.

However, history suggests that City are likely going to fail in their mission to arrest their slump as they have only won once in their 21 league visits to Anfield.

Also, none of Liverpool’s last six managers have lost their first league meeting with England’s reigning champions (W4 D2), not since Roy Evans’ 1-0 loss to Manchester United in 1993-94.

The good news for City, though, is that Liverpool have won just one of the last nine league games against City (D5, L3).

Liverpool vs Man City Team News

Liverpool have a few injury problems, with the likes of Kostas Tsimikas, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa set to miss the game.

The Reds could also be without Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley after picking up injuries against Real Madrid.

As for Man City, John Stones (foot), Rodri (ACL), Oscar Bobb (leg) and Mateo Kovacic are all out, but Jeremy Doku and Ruben Dias could be back.
