Weekends are always fun with sports and the just-concluded one was no different as fans were treated to another exciting sporting action.
It was a weekend that had super fights, non-stop football action or soccer, depending on where you are from, and the showtime NBA basketball.
The biggest fight of last weekend was Gervonta “Tank” Davis’ controversial draw against Lamont “The Reaper” Roach Jr. The two faced off in a WBA Light Heavyweight title clash in New York last Saturday.
It was a fight of high quality but many felt Tank, who maintained his unbeaten record, should have lost, especially after he took the knee in the ninth round.
While it was not counted as a knockdown, many felt it should have, even though Tank claimed after the fight that it was grease from his hair affecting his vision.
Nonetheless, the fight was called a majority draw, with both fighters expected to run it back in a rematch.
Away from that fight, European football and the NBA also dominated the headlines, but Barcelona and the Los Angeles Lakers were the biggest winners.
Barcelona take LaLiga control
LaLiga title race will likely go down to the wire this season, but Barcelona will feel confident in their chances now after they took control of their destiny.
The Catalan giants took outright control of the top position as they thrashed Real Sociedad in their clash on Sunday evening.
Goals from Gerard Martin, Marc Casado, Ronald Araujo and Robert Lewandowski were enough to give Hansi Flick’s men an easy win.
The win put Barcelona at the top, moving ahead of Real Madrid by three points. Los Blancos were joint-top with Barca going into the weekend’s round of games but they suffered a disappointing loss to Real Betis on Saturday.
With the loss, Madrid dropped to third on the table as Atletico Madrid moved up to second after Diego Simeone’s men beat Athletic Bilbao in the weekend’s marquee clash.
Luka and Lebron lead Lakers to sixth straight win
When that trade happened, everyone questioned how Lebron and Luka would fit. Well, a few games later, the magic duo have answered that question and cleared all doubts.
Sunday’s win against the Los Angeles Clippers once again reinforced the point that great players will always find a way.
Both Luka and Lebron combined for 46 points, with the former dropping 29 points, nine assists and six rebounds to help the Lakers to a 108-102 win.
It was the Lakers sixth consecutive win, moving them up to the second seed in the Western Conference.
