Weekend Review: Pereira remains the ‘baddest’ as Erik Ten Hag hangs on

Alex Pereira remains the ‘baddest’ man in the UFC as Erik Ten Hag lives on to fight another day as Manchester United’s manager.

It is a new week but we cannot start the new week without looking back at an exciting weekend of sports.

Last weekend was indeed the weekend of knockouts, draws and three pointers as the NBA started preparations for a new season.

From the pitches of European club stadiums to the octagon in Salt Lake City, last weekend had it all in store for sports lovers.

As expected, Housebets is here to bring you all the talking points from last weekend.

Pereira retains his UFC title

For the third time this year, Alex Pereira defended his light heavyweight title successfully after beating Khalil Rountree in the main event of UFC 307 at Salt Lake City on Saturday night.

Pereira had beaten Jamahal Hill and Jiri Prochazka for the second time going into his clash against Rountree.

Rountree was the clear underdog going into the fight, but he was on a five-match winning streak coming into the fight.

The fight started with Pereira trying to put Rountree under pressure with his kicks, but the American was not fazed, returning with kicks of his own.

In fact, in one of the rounds Rountree almost caught the champion twice with two brilliant kicks, but Pereira was able to use his experience to avoid the danger.

But as the fight went on, Rountree began to tire. It got worse in the fourth round, where he could not take a barrage of Pereira’s blows and kicks.

The fight was eventually stopped in the fourth round after Pereira landed a final blow that dropped the American.

It was indeed a punishment for Rountree, who left the octagon with visible cuts on his nose, swollen eyes and blood dripping out of his nose. Nonetheless, he won hearts for the gut and fight he showed.

Ten Hag hangs on

Manchester United played out a goalless draw with Aston Villa at Villa Park in their Premier League clash on Sunday.

The result is likely to keep Erik Ten Hag in charge as United’s boss at least for now. Going into the clash, there were talks that the match could be the Dutch man’s last as United’s manager.

However, the draw has bought him some time at least. Ten Hag is under pressure at Old Trafford following United’s poor start to the season.

The Red Devils have won just three games in all competitions, Fulham, Southampton and Barnsley.

They came into the game against Aston Villa on the back of a 3-3 draw against Porto, blowing a 2-0 lead.

This came after they suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last week.

Lebron makes history with Bronny

The NBA 2024-2025 season is yet to kick off, but Lebron James is already making history after becoming the first father to play with his son in the competition’s history.

Bronny James, who was selected 55th overall by the Lakers in the 2024 NBA draft, came on at the start of the second quarter to play with his father in the Lakers’ preseason clash against the Phoenix Suns.

Although Bronny did not score during the time he was on the pitch, there was great chemistry between the two on the court.

As for the game itself, JJ Redick has a lot of work to do as Lakers’ head coach after his side lost 118-114.
