Weekend Review: The Eagles stop Chiefs from making history
The Kansas City City Chiefs were hoping to do the unprecedented but the Philadelphia Eagles said no.

The Kansas City City Chiefs were hoping to do the unprecedented but the Philadelphia Eagles said no.
Almost 24 hours later, we are still reeling from what happened at Super Bowl LIX featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
Even though the event only took place in February, it will be one of the highlights of 2025, just like any other year. It was a weekend like no other and it was not just the Super Bowl alone.
There was also some football action in Europe featuring some surprising results. In England, Liverpool’s dream of winning the quadruple vanished after a shocking 1-0 loss to Plymouth in their FA Cup clash.
Plymouth were the bottom side in the second tier of English football but they managed to pull off an amazing upset against the No. 1 team in the country.
Meanwhile, in Spain, Barcelona moved within two points of Real Madrid in the race for the title after beating Sevilla 4-1. Los Blancos had dropped points for the second consecutive weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw in the Madrid derby.
In Serie A, Napoli missed out on the chance to move six points clear of Inter Milan following a 1-1 draw against Udinese at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.
Having said that, though, real football had to take a backseat last weekend as it was the Super Bowl weekend.
The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl LIX champions
Super Bowl LIX will forever live in the memory of the Eagles fans as they stopped the Chiefs from making history.
Going into the game, all the talk was about the Chiefs becoming the first side in the NFL to win three successive Super Bowls. In fairness, the Chiefs were the team to beat as they were the two-time defending champions. Also, they had beaten the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII two years ago.
The Chiefs also went into the game as slight favourites, but the Eagles did not pay attention to that as they had just one thing on their mind, which was revenge.
The Eagles got out of the blocks early by opening the scoring in the first quarter with their signature play – a goal-line move. That set the tempo for the rest of the game as they went 10-0 after Jake Elliott’s 48-yard field goal.
The Chiefs struggled throughout the game, with star player Patrick Mahomes unable to get any past a resilient Eagles defence. Mahomes throws two interceptions and is sacked six times.
Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts, who was named the MVP, led the way, throwing for two touchdowns and running for another as Philadelphia brutally avenged their 2023 loss to the Chiefs at Super Bowl 57.
