Wimbledon Men’s Semifinal Betting Preview, Odds & Tips
Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Lorenzo Musetti and Daniil Medvedev are the last four men standing in this year’s Wimbledon
Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Lorenzo Musetti and Daniil Medvedev are the last four men standing in this year’s Wimbledon.
The 2024 Wimbledon championship is at the business end, with only four men left ahead of the showpiece on Sunday, July 14, 2024.
The usual suspects Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev are all in, while Lorenzo Musetti is a first time finalist.
Alcaraz, Djokovic and Medvedev all reached the last four in 2023, with the Spaniard eventually prevailing over Djokovic in the final in a nail-biting five-setter.
Alcaraz will be looking to defend his title again but he needs to get past Medvedev first in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, Djokovic, seeking a record-equalling eighth title at the All England Club, faces the tricky Musetti in the finals.
We preview both semi-finals, taking a look at the odds and best picks for the match.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Daniil Medvedev
This is a repeat of last year’s clash at the same stage, with Alcaraz winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.
The 21-year-old Spaniard will once again go into the clash as the favourite, having won 41 of his last 44 grand slam matches.
He also leads the head-to-head record 4-2, winning their last two matches, including the Indian Wells final this year.
In fairness, Alcaraz has not been flawless in this year’s championship, needing five sets to see off Francis Tiafoe in round three and dropping a set against Ugo Umbert and Tommy Paul in the fourth round and quarter-final, respectively.
But despite the struggles in his last three matches, Alcaraz knows exactly when to raise his level.
However, in Medvedev, he faces a formidable opponent looking for revenge after last year’s defeat.
Medvedev comes into this game full of confidence after beating World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in a thrilling five-set.
Before the win, Medveded had lost his last five against Sinner, including the Australian Open final, which saw him blow a two-set lead.
But Medvedev managed to end the losing streak and will hope to take that momentum into Friday’s clash against Alcaraz.
However, like Alcaraz, Medvedev’s run to the semifinal has also been far from smooth sailing, dropping a set in the second and third rounds, although he had it easy in the quarter-final after Grigor Dimitrov retired in the first set.
Alcaraz vs Medvedev Betting Odds
As stated earlier, Alcaraz is the favourite for this clash and is backed at 1.29 at Housebets. Medvedev is the clear underdog in this one with an odd of 3.67.
Alcaraz vs Medvedev Betting Tips
While Alcaraz is the favourite in this one, this match is unlikely to end in a straight-sets win like their clash last year.
Betting Tip: Medvedev to win a set at 1.40 or Over 3.5 sets at 1.55
Novak Djokovic vs Lorenzo Musetti
The second men’s singles semifinal will see Novak Djokovic take on Lorenzo Musetti. Djokovic, seeking a record-breaking 25th grand slam title, came into this year’s tournament with doubts over his fitness.
The former World No. 1 came into this year’s Wimbledon after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
Djokovic cupped the injury at the French Open after beating Musetti in the fourth round, forcing him to withdraw from his quarter-final match.
Nonetheless, Djokovic has allayed all doubts and fears with a strong showing in this year’s championship.
The 37-year-old started his campaign with an easy victory over Vit Kopriva before dropping one set on his way to beating Jacob Fearnley in the second round.
Djokovic also dropped a set in his victory over Alexei Popyrin but defeated Holger Rune in straight sets in the fourth round.
The Serbian comes into his semi-final clash feeling fresh after his quarterfinal opponent Alex de Minaur withdrew due to an injury.
For Lorenzo Musetti, his run to the semifinal has been nothing short of remarkable. He came into this year’s Wimbledon with a series of mixed performances.
But he indeed came alive at SW19, upsetting the odds. Musetti will also be full of confidence going into his clash against Djokovic after beating the in-form Taylor Fritz in the quarter-final.
Djokovic vs Musetti Betting Odds
Djokovic is the overwhelming favourite for this one and he is priced at 1.13 at Housebets to get the job done.
Musetti, playing in his first Wimbledon semifinal, is a massive underdog with an odd of 6.30 at Housebets to cause an upset.
Djokovic vs Musetti Betting Tips
History favours Djokovic, who is set to play his 13th Wimbledon semifinal. He leads the head-to-head 5-1, winning their last grand slam clash in a thrilling five-setter at Roland Garros this year.
Tip: It is hard to see anything other than a Djokovic win. However, Musetti has always been a challenging matchup for the Serbian, so Over 34.5 at 1.83 at Housebets.
